It is the most wonderful time of the year. I am not talking about Christmas, rather Oregon Craft Beer Month, which is a Christmas of sorts for craft beer fans. July has been officially dedicated to the celebration of beer by Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski. For the fifth year in a row the Oregon Brewer’s Guild has created a magnificent month in honor of craft beer with over 120 events.

The official Oregon proclamation states:

“The month of July will feature a celebration of craft beer by Oregon’s specialty breweries with beer tasting, brewers dinners, brewers festivals, brewery tours, beer and cheese pairings, and golf tournaments taking place throughout the state, culminating with the 22nd annual Oregon Brewers Festival July 23-26th, and event that draws more than 70,000 beer lovers to Portland and provides an economic impact of $1.5 million for the state.”

You are probably wondering why I did not post this earlier… Well, I have been to busy “researching” beer events. The official Oregon Craft Beer month kick off party was on July 1st at the Horse Brass Pub in Portland, Oregon with beers representing the seven regions of Oregon and a lot of happy beer fans. But not to worry, there are still more than 20 days left to celebrate with plenty of events to choose from. Here are a few of the events that I will be attending this month:

This summer, don’t just sit there – channel your inner kid and get out and splash! In Oregon, you’ve got your pick of water-infused adventures: jet boat rides, surf lessons, kayak tours, sternwheeler spins and the list goes on.

While you’re at it, why not hit the road? We’ve got a few small-town itineraries that will have you exploring Oregon’s lesser-known areas – perfect fodder for your personal Oregon 150 Challenge.

There are some exciting happenings on the culinary-front as well. This month you can taste more than 70 beers at the 22nd annual Oregon Brewers Fest or try your hand at making Parmesan Fennel Gratin.

See you in Oregon, where we’ve got a lot going on.
