On the Road with Oregon Bounty, Day Six: Mt. Hood/The Gorge
Day six of On the Road with Oregon Bounty, and after a relaxing weekend I’m back, and we’re talking beer. As a recovering wine snob, I used to think of beer as a second-class beverage citizen. It was the watery stuff we drank in college, or, worse, the yeasty home brew a neighbor made in his garage when I was growing up. Beer could not possibly hold a candle to the complexity and nuances of a well-crafted Pinot noir. Well, as they used to say in spaghetti westerns, that there is fightin’ words here in Oregon beervana.
Just ask Jamie Emmerson. For over 20 years, Jamie has been the head beer maestro at Full Sail Brewing in Hood River, Oregon. For the last two decades he’s been living every brewer’s dream; to own a brewery, have the freedom to be innovative, brew beers of world class quality, and do it in an unreal place where all summer the wind pumps and all winter the snow dumps. Over the years he’s put his mark on Oregon’s craft brewing industry that has redefined what makes up a great glass of suds. Since Jamie took the helm at Full Sail, the brewery has racked up over 60 medals and awards in national and international competitions.
