Kids: Be Sure to explOregon!
May 14, 2008

Hey, Kids!
Summer's almost here and school is just about over, which is a perfect time to win a trip to the beach. You and your family will have the chance to check out tidepools at Haystack Rock, fly a kite or build a sandcastle in Lincoln City, or study sea creatures at the Oregon Coast Aquarium when you win the explOregon contest.
Plus, entering to win is super easy. To enter, tell us whether you HAVE or HAVE NOT been to the Pacific Ocean. Then send us a drawing and an essay with one hundred words (or less) explaining why you’d love to go, what you think you’d see, and what you would explore—or your favorite memories from a past visit there.

Hatfield Marine Science Center's Octopus Conquers A New Frontier
March 21, 2008
Last week, Jimmie the Octopus ventured out into the wild after leaving her home at the Hatfield Marine Science Center. Jimmie loved her home at the Marine Science Center, and enjoyed interacting with people. Because of this, she was reluctant to leave her cozy tank in Newport. After a little bit of coaxing with the help of a delicious crab, Jimmie ventured into the wild at the Yaquina Bay jetty, while onlookers cheered for her. Apparently Jimmie loved living in Oregon as much as we do! To read the entire Oregonian article, please click here.
And be sure to visit the Hatfield Marine Science Center and Oregon Coast Aquarium this spring break!
Yurtin’ It on the Oregon Coast
February 21, 2008

By Linea Carlson
I’ve always loved camping, but cold temperatures and the task of setting up camp have made me a bit reticent to plan a trip. That is, until the sun poked through the Oregon clouds and my boyfriend and I scored a yurt reservation at Cape Lookout State Park on the Oregon Coast.
We started our adventure by gathering our minimal camping gear, including our much-needed sunglasses. We didn’t require a lot since the yurt we were staying in had heat and electricity; just some hiking boots, bedding, and gourmet accoutrements (of course we wanted to round out our glorious weekend the way so many campers in this state do—enjoying Oregon’s bountiful culinary delights under its star-encrusted canopy).

A Gorgeous Summer Afternoon in Lincoln City
August 2, 2007

By Ashley Moran
During a scorching July afternoon, my friend Christina and I decided to beat the heat by roadtripping to the Oregon Coast. Our destination of the day was Lincoln City, and we had food, sun tanning and shopping on our minds. We packed the cooler full of snacks and popped in a cd we could sing to, and we were off! The weather on our drive was fairly overcast, but once we reached our destination it was as if the clouds had opened up- it was absolutely GORGEOUS outside.
Our first stop was the Tanger Outlet Mall, where we purused a variety of home and clothing stores. After that, we stopped for lunch at a quaint little pizza shop called Humble Pie. We shared a yummy meatball sandwich with gooey mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce, and an Italian sub with pepperoni, salami, veggies and Italian dressing.

The Scoop on Cannon Beach and Seaside…
June 3, 2007
Seaside and Cannon Beach are two of the most popular North Coast destinations in Oregon. The Lewis and Clark trail ended at what is now Seaside, a resort town famous for its promenade. A few miles south is Cannon Beach, a charming community known for its art galleries, tide pools and sunsets behind Haystack Rock. If you’re planning a trip out to either Seaside or Cannon Beach this summer, be sure to read the following blogs by Terry Richard of OregonLive.com. (Photo above: Travel Oregon's Holly with her son at Ecola State Park)
Terry has been blogging from Seaside and Cannon Beach for the last week and has the scoop on a variety of fun topics such as: Ecola State Park, The North Coast Land Conservancy, Cannon Beach’s arts scene, the one-of-a-kind Seaside Promenade, Seaside Aquarium, family fun in Seaside and where to eat and where to stay in both towns.
~Cheers!

A Mother & Daughter Adventure in Astoria, Oregon
May 2, 2007
By Ashley Moran
These days, because of our jam-packed schedules, I rarely have time to get away with my mother and sister. Which is exactly why we decided to travel to Astoria, Oregon for a girls-only getaway.
Day 1: Friday
We started our voyage by fueling our systems with mochas and lattes, and enjoyed a gorgeous drive to the Oregon Coast. We later checked in at the fabulous Cannery Pier Hotel, which was graciously provided to us by Donna Quinn, their director of sales and marketing.
