November 15 is America Recycles Day, the only nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and buy recycled products. Celebrating its 10th year, it has grown to include millions of Americans pledging to increase their recycling habits at home and work and to buy products made with recycled materials.
The National Recycling Coalition states that the U.S. currently recycles 32 percent of its waste, a rate that has almost doubled during the past 15 years.
There is still a long way to go however. According to the BetterWorld PROJECT, each year Americans create about 240 million tons of solid wastes - nearly 4.5 pounds per person each day.
