Governor Declares November As Native American Indian Heritage Month

Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski has signed a proclamation declaring November to be Native American Indian Heritage Month.

"The heritage and contribution of Native Americans and Indian tribes help make Oregon economically, culturally and spiritually stronger," said the governor in his proclamation. "The month of November will be a time for Oregonians to celebrate the heritage, culture, spirit and contributions of American Indians."

November also marks National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month which is celebrated to recognize the intertribal cultures and to educate the public about the heritage, history, art, and traditions of the American Indian and Alaska Native people.
