It was recently announced that the Lufthansa service from PDX to Frankfurt will be suspended as of September 12, 2009. While this is very unfortunate news, PDX continues to have non-stop service to Europe with the Delta PDX-Amsterdam flight and non-stop to Asia with the Delta PDX-Tokyo flight.
With the global economic recession, it is a challenge for the airlines to continue non-stop service to many destinations. However, Travel Oregon continues to work with the Port of Portland and other partners to promote inbound leisure travel on both the Delta flights into PDX.
International travel from Europe continues to report good numbers for the '09 season. Efforts to grow our Asia markets of Japan, Korea and China continue, and Canada is showing growth in both the drive market and with the new flight from PDX to Calgary, air travel should also show an increase.
