Travel Oregon Gets Lean And Mean On Green

Led by new sustainability manager Kristin Dahl, Travel Oregon has put together a crack team representing all departments to deliver strategies and solutions for developing a more sustainable organization. Travel Oregon staff has embraced the opportunity to walk the walk and has lined up a number of short-term, mid-term and long-term opportunities to not only be a more eco-friendly organization, but to look at sustainable best practices that can span across the tourism industry.

The devil is always in the details, but the Travel Oregon staff has already put a number of the short-term, quick-fixes into play. The team developed four guidelines for the short-term solutions:

•Reduce our materials waste and create efficiencies
•Create a conduit of education and learning amongst staff to promote holistic integration of sustainability
•Increase energy efficiencies of our facilities & operations
•Analyze carbon footprint and take immediate action to reduce our vehicle emissions

From improved recycling to purchasing recycled materials to CFLs to improved commuting, we are trying to do our part. If you haven't already, we hope you are starting to think about what you can do as well!
