Revenue Restructuring Task Force Wants To Hear From You

As a result of action taken during the 2007 Legislative session, the Task Force on Comprehensive Revenue Restructuring (Task Force) was formed. This bipartisan Task Force consists of 21 citizen members appointed by the Governor, 8 members of the Legislature and the State Treasurer.

The purpose of the Task Force is to take a comprehensive look at reforming Oregon's tax and revenue system. They have been meeting for a year and have issued a draft report of their recommendations. They will be seeking input to be submitted to the 2009 Legislature. There is language in the "short term" recommendations (page 22) related to local preemptions, including the use of local lodging tax dollars.

The public meetings of the Task Force are scheduled for:
• November 13 - Medford Jackson County Library 5pm-8pm
• November 19 - Pendleton Vert Auditorium 5pm-8pm
• November 20 - Redmond Deschutes Fair & Expo - North Sisters Conference Hall 5pm-8pm
• December 8 - Newport Hatfield Marine Science Center - Main Auditorium 6pm-9pm
• December 12 - Eugene Eugene School District Education Center Main Auditorium 6pm-9pm
• December 17 - Tigard Public Library in the Community Room 6pm-9pm

The Task Force Chair and a subset of Task Force members will attend each meeting to receive public input. Public input will be included in the final Task Force report. The Task Force is particularly interested in the public's views concerning:
• Adequacy of the revenue system.
• Fairness of the tax system.
• Suggestions to improve the stability of the revenue system.
• Ways to use the revenue system to more effectively encourage economic growth
