National Trust Names Portland To Distinctive Destination List

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has named Portland, OR to its "Dozen Distinctive Destinations" list for 2008.

Each year the National Trust recognizes 12 vacation destinations across the United States that offer an authentic visitor experience by combining dynamic downtowns, cultural diversity, attractive architecture, cultural landscapes and a strong commitment to historic preservation and revitalization.

Portland is described by the National Trust as a "dynamic destination that offers an alluring mix of natural beauty, lively downtown entertainment and landmark historic attractions. Effortlessly accessed by bike, an award-winning transit system or on foot, the city exudes a genuine, unaffected personality with its diverse neighborhoods, historic core and sustainable lifestyle."
