National Park Centennial Initiative

Legislation is now pending in the U.S. Congress that could result in $3 billion in public and private funds being invested in national parks throughout the nation by 2016.

H.R. 3094, the National Park Centennial Fund Act, has been approved by the House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources and is now awaiting a floor vote by the entire House. S. 2187 is the comparable Senate bill, which must first be considered by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee before going to the Senate floor.

Passage of this legislation and implementation of the Centennial Initiative would result in significant investment in the parks directed at ensuring the integrity of these national treasures.

This is critical legislation that would provide matching funds for key projects in Oregon, such as a $6 million visitor center at Crater Lake National Park. Great to see you highlight it, Michelle!!
