Portland is one of 15 cities chosen by Smithsonian.com and highlighted in its list of "Where to Live Next".
Criteria included: Cities or towns with their own distinctive character and charm, preferably with pleasant, close-in pedestrian neighborhoods; places where outdoor activities are within easy access; and most of all, places with rich cultural offerings, including museums, galleries and symphonies.
Portland's reputation as a "green" city, its location (near the coast and mountains), as well as its art scene are some of the highpoints mentioned.
