TEN Reasons Why Portland Fashion Week 2009 (Oct 7-11) will be The best PFW Ever!

Two of the biggest Oregon designers Anna Cohen & Michelle Decourcy are launching brand new lines Imperial by Anna Cohen and La Vie from Portland Fashion Week.
Jantzen, one of the most leading swimwear companies in the world launching its 100 year anniversary swimwear collection from PFW
Audience-vote will select the best emerging designer of 2009. As you know, Leanne Marshall, the emerging designer from PFW 2006 went on to become winner of Project Runway.
Two of Portland’s most successful designers, IDOM and Amai Unmei will launch their Spring/Summer 2010 Collections from PFW; this launch would be their third year, in a row, in PFW.
Four of the biggest Pacific NW designers, from Seattle and Vancouver BC, launching their Spring/Summer 2010 collections, making PFW THE regional fashion week
Five international designers, all the way from Pakistan, France, Sweden, Canada, New Zealand, are launching here, this enhances PFW’s role as an international fashion week
PFW is presenting an attractive bicycle-wear fashion show, as part of Oregon Manifest bike festival.
Leading eco-designers, from Chicago, New York, California and Pittsburg are launching from PFW.
The high-production runway shows, which in 2007 got recognized as the “first sustainable production of a fashion week in the world”, will be taking place just a few miles from city center, in the Swan Island, otherwise known as Portland’s working harbor, at the amazingly industrial Vigor Industrial Shipyard, Portland’s most bike-riding work-campus.
Last but not least, the swanky after parties in the Pearl and downtown will keep the excitement going till the wee hours at night.

All these make Portland Fashion Week not only the biggest fashion week in the US after NY and LA FW, but, make us being proud of being in Portland and Oregon.

If you’ve ever lived in Eugene, you know that there is, uh, how shall we put this diplomatically, a dearth of fashion options here. Tie die….didn’t it go out in say, 1974? Comfortable, sensible, yet continually unsexy shoes? Where’s your sense of adventure ladies? When I go to Portland I feel like I am on a stagecoach going into the big city for fine laces and linens. Gee whiz, I need a fix. Hope to get my tickets and get current with what is happening in the outside world.

Simply put portland and oregon is the best place for a fashion show, beautiful clothes for beautiful people. I do have to comment that eugene has beautifully laidback fashion, especially since when you live there you are constantly outdoors hiking, biking,kayaking etc. Your clothes need to suit your environment. anyway- PICK ME,PICK ME

I’m doing a year long project about Oregon with my homeschooled kids. It’s a blast but I’d love some grownup time in PDX. There is more to Oregon than salt-dough maps of Crater Lake and crayon leaf-rubbings!

As a life long Portlander I have been lucky enough to witness the progression of what constitutes fashion in Portland. From when Seaplane on Belmont was the only place showing Portland fashion to when Leanne Marshall won Project Runway- I have followed it all! Sadly, I have never had the pleasure of attending a Portland Fashion Week show and I’m hoping this year that will change!

If you want to a reason to come to Portland, then it’s NOT for this fashion show. It’s been bad and getting worse. The 2009 edition was a low-budget production and most of the local designers that once had high-hopes for the show have long distanced themselves from this show. That’s left lot’s of second-tier designers presenting. Even what they pull in from outside the area was very unappealing and uninspired.

I wanted to go this year with my sister that lives in Portland but couldn’t make it with my kid sick at home. I was told though the show she went to was really disappointing but she didn’t attend any other nights. I’d like to know if anyone else who went thought the show was anything worth seeing?
