Summer is here!

This month, we have fun ideas to get you splashing around Oregon, from learning to windsurf in the Columbia Gorge to dipping your toes in the Pacific Ocean. We’re even giving away a Southern Oregon rafting vacation in honor of liquid fun.

If you’re more inclined to sip than swim, July is Oregon Craft Beer month and you’re invited to the Oregon Brewer’s Festival at Portland’s Waterfront Park.

Despite what the Trip Planner says, there’s no such animal as Newport Bay. There’s Yaquina Bay, and there’s a district known as the Newport Bayfront. The Newport Bay Restaurant chain has nothing to do with the Oregon Coast.

And there definitely is a nice road from Coos Bay to Charleston, despite what the map on page 150 shows. The route it shows from Bandon to Charleston includes Seven Devils Road, which is in places a winding, one-lane dirt road impassable to RVs. I’d recommend the Cape Arago Highway.

Hey…You guys are fabulous. I am finally getting to visit your state next week (7/16 – 7/25)and boy am I ever looking forward to it. Staying in Portland, but renting a car to tour the state. Been wanting to visit for years, as we have been all over the US, but not Oregon or Washington. Even thinking of relocating to Oregon after all I have heard about it. See you then…Oh, and by the way, the editors of every publication are awesome, as are the writers.

Hi Guys-
I just LOVE your stuff. I eat up your newsletter and it always makes me want to travel – even if it is across the whole country. The turn of a phrase makes all the difference:
“… there’s even a watery hiking trail called Oneonta Gorge that has you walking through narrow canyons in ankle-deep water.”
Ankle deep water in narrow canyons suddenly sounds romantic and I can picture myself right there with my grandsons.

I got your Coastal Oregon a week before we left to go down the coast. It was wonderful. Great hotels, sites to see and places to eat. It was the most memorable trip ever!!!

Thanks for your interest in the new Trip Planner. The district we refer to in the coast itinerary is called Newport Bayfront, not Newport Bay. We inadvertently omitted “front” and regret the error. And for details on the more scenic road from Coos Bay to Charleston at the southern Oregon coast, please refer to the coast map on page 41.
