Welcome to the Travel Oregon staff's monthly "Good Eats" blog! This month, we're exploring the unique cuisine of Portland. If you're planning on watching a show at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, shopping at Saturday market or simply exploring the city, Portland has a variety of choices that will surely satisfy your cravings.
Our staff has put together a list of restaurant reviews, ranging from Cuban to Pacific Northwest that are guaranteed to make your mouth water.

D.F. in Portland is pronounced Day F-ay for a district in Mexico City. They serve delicious Nuevo Mexican cuisine, and the best guacamole in Portland. You may enjoy succulent camarones (shrimp) with garlic and hot peppers and the BEST homemade maragaritas with all kinds of infused tequilas. Try the jalapeno one—it’s a perfect mix of heat and sweet.

Located near art galleries in the Pearl, Park Kitchen provides a delightfully urban ambiance. The chef's tasting menu is the most fun. Many tastes of many dishes, all creative, fresh, new taste combinations. Their menu changes monthly with the freshest ingredients.

Caprial's Bistro offers northwest cuisine inspired by the local owner chefs, Caprial and John Pence. They are true believers in using locally grown organic ingredients and the results are wonderfully fresh dishes that delight the palate.

A local Cuban restaurant, Pambiche's menu items are based on family recipes. Their "fried cow" dish is awesome! Pambiche serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with a happy hour menu.

BlueHour has a very sophisticated, elegant feeling as soon as you walk in the door. Their service is excellent every time I visit. The cobb salad is my personal favorite, which contains roasted chicken, fried red onions, in a zinfandel shallot vinaigrette. It is a great place for lunch meetings, as well as a relaxing gathering with friends.

Mother's Bistro If you find yourself in downtown Portland on a Saturday morning unsure about where to get a decent breakfast, head over to the warm ambiance of Mother’s Bistro in Old Town. Chef Lisa Schroeder specializes in the kind of “comfort food” your mother used to serve up—pot roast, meat loaf, chicken and dumplings, crab cakes, frittas—and other heartwarming “slow-cooked” fare. The motherly theme is amplified in the bright airy dining room that’s adorned with antique off-white furniture and art. The menu is equally comforting. My personal favorite is the “migas,” a sinfully delightful Mexican breakfast feast of eggs, corn tortillas, jack cheese, onions & peppers, scrambled together and topped with chipotle sour cream & salsa. In addition to other breakfast favorites such as biscuits and gravy and eggs benedict, the restaurant also features a special MOM’s menu that offers up a different dish from a new mother each month.
Note: As expected, Mother’s is packed on weekends, so call ahead for reservations. Only complete parties will be seated.
